Nancy Chambers

Nancy’s been painting poppies for years because she can’t get over the contradiction: petals that look almost impossibly delicate, on a plant tough enough to flourish on a roundabout. This summer’s heat tested even the hardiest flowers and the poppies carried on regardless, which inspired this series of vibrant reds, oranges and pinks. Hang one in the hallway or above the kitchen table and it’s a daily reminder that something vivid can take root anywhere.

This collection brings together five original poppy paintings by self-taught artist Nancy Chambers, each one made in acrylics on board and finished in a hand made white wooden St Ives double frame. You’ll find pink, magenta, crimson, orange and violet poppies set against deep blue, soft pink and emerald green, painted with bold colour, rich texture and room around every flower.

Nancy has a knack for catching the two sides of a poppy: papery petals on slender stems that look fragile, and a plant that’s tougher than it seems. Each framed painting is ready to hang, whether that’s above a sideboard, in a hallway or on the kitchen wall. Every piece is one of a kind, and the frames are made by hand in Cornwall and left without glazing so you can see the texture of the paint up close.
