Inspired by creek water moving upstream, Waterways and Heatwaves - Study 1 explores the shifting relationship between water, land and heat.

Layers of hand-tufted wool build an abstract landscape of deep water, earthy tones, vivid reds and soft pinks. The composition captures a moment when familiar waterways appear altered — the tide drawing water inland while the surrounding landscape holds the intensity of summer heat.

Rather than recreating a particular view, this piece is an interpretation of the colours, movement and atmosphere of the landscape.

A hand-painted pink frame completes the artwork, chosen as part of the composition to extend the colour beyond the textile itself.
