Tidal Lines is a large-scale handwoven textile work inspired by the colours, contours and movement of the British coastline.

Created intuitively using richly dyed roving merino wool, the piece is built from flowing bands of fibre that move across the work like tidal lines through a landscape. Deep greens, blues and greys meet vivid pinks, reds and oranges, with flashes of soft white running between them - suggesting water, land and the shifting marks left by the changing tide.

Rather than beginning with a drawing or predetermined pattern, the artist works directly with the yarn, allowing colour and texture to determine the direction of the piece as it develops. Variations in the weight and thickness of the wool create changes in depth and rhythm, giving the surface an almost sculptural quality.

Often described as painting with yarn, the practice treats individual strands as marks and woven lines as brushstrokes, building an abstract landscape through colour and fibre.

Suspended between simple copper rails, the work is deliberately left unframed, allowing the irregular edges, softness and physicality of the wool to remain visible.

Tidal Lines captures not a particular view, but the feeling of a coastline in constant movement - layers of land and water continually shifting, meeting and leaving their marks behind.
