Seasons Come, Seasons Go

There is a kind of wisdom in paying attention. In Seasons Come, Seasons Go, Alice Gavin Atashkar turns that attention to the landscape on her doorstep — the nature reserves, valley walks and wild margins of North London — and finds in them a complete philosophy of living. From the stripped-back quiet of midwinter to the riotous abundance of high summer, this collection of original acrylic paintings on linen traces the full arc of the year, season by season, mood by mood. These are works about learning to be present in the moment you are actually in, rather than wishing yourself into the next one.

Seasons Come, Seasons Go is a collection of original botanical paintings by London-based artist Alice Gavin Atashkar, painted in acrylic on linen between 2025 and 2026. Drawing on daily walks through Dartlands Nature Reserve, Dollis Valley and Brooke Farm in North London, Alice has built a body of work that follows one complete turn of the year - from the pared-back geometry of bare winter branches through the first tentative catkins of late January, the explosive dot-work of blackthorn blossom in early Spring, and the lush, saturated greens and vivid rhododendron pinks of May and June. Each painting is rooted in a specific place and a specific moment, rendered in Alice’s expressive, colour-saturated style: bold brushwork, layered greens, and an instinctive feel for the way light falls through leaf canopy and tangled undergrowth.

A self-taught painter and member of the ArtCan global arts collective, Gavin Atashkar brings to her botanical subjects both the eye of a trained art psychotherapist and the sensibility of someone for whom painting is a devotional as much as an artistic practice. The result is work that goes beyond decoration: these are paintings about the emotional texture of the seasons, about learning to find meaning in the present moment rather than projecting into the next one. The collection spans a range of formats and price points - from intimate 30 x 40cm studies to large-scale diptychs measuring up to two metres wide - making it suited to both domestic interiors and commercial or hospitality spaces. Works are available framed and unframed, several in floating canvas or Abeche wood frames. Every work comes with a certificate of authenticity. For collectors of original contemporary British painting, botanical art, or nature-led work, this collection offers something with genuine emotional depth: the reminder that every season, however bleak, carries the seed of what comes next. Original paintings are available to purchase directly; commissions and studio visits are welcome on enquiry.
